Toe Sa’a Le Fafao, To Empty the Box. This course is focused on the functions of the Niu in relation to the Samoan way of life. This involves the student and their role in their immediate environment. The different aspects of Samoan life including history, language entertainment and Art and craft. Also looks at the relationships and effects on the self through different connections. The Niu and the use in Samoan culture and its decorative functions or the important cultural event. Student will - Study family life, roles, duties and relationships - Samoan History, pre-Christianity, post-Christianity modern days, key events - Compare life in life in Samoa and in Aotearoa - Engage with written and spoken texts in which young people talk about what they enjoy and value about the different areas of their life. - Study Samoan legends - Listen to descriptions and presentations of cultural protocols - Study existing symbols and pattern for Tattoo and Malu and write about their significance in the Samoan Tattoo(Tatau) - Create an Art portfolio, which will include your symbols studies, patterns concepts and complete works.
