Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss C. Doherty.
Have you ever wondered about how important your joints are to the overall function and movement of your body? If this is something that you would like to investigate more then this is the course for you. Anatomical Sports Investigation offers both practical and academic components focusing on body movement and sports injuries and prevention. The practical element of this class is based around a sporting context. You and your peers will choose a sport that you will all train for and at the end of the unit of work, participate in a class tournament that will run for a week. You will be assessed for the way you play and skills you demonstrate in the game. The theory in this course will focus on applying knowledge of basic anatomy to the skills that you will demonstrate during the practical element of this course. This means looking at muscle groups and bones that form the joints in your body and how they are used during the sport you choose and play. Another aspect we will look at is injury prevention where you will learn about types of injuries you may sustain in any aspect of physical activity, how to prevent them and the risks and hazards around the sport. This is important knowledge to have in order to prepare yourselves well and keep safe before, during and after training and the tournament.
