Course Description

Have you picked up a book or magazine in the school or community library, as you were captivated by the front cover? Or have you seen an online music album or game for sale that made you look twice, cause you thought the Artwork was cool? Ever wondered how the Cover Art was created in these instances and made you want to create your very own? If this is so, then this course is for you! This course is centred around concept design and development of Cover Art for books, magazines, comic Art,or music albums. You will create eye-catching Cover Art designs that will be engaging. This project combines a written component, which will be presented alongside your body of work. You will be able to develop your understanding of how to use a wide-range of Art and Design tools that are used in the Creative Industry.
You will:
Study existing Cover Art designs .This could be from books,magazines, newspapers, video games, music albums, and comic
books. You will create a variety of compelling Cover Art concepts that enhance the narratives within a book or music. Develop your own cover Art using a variety of tools. This includes digital art mediums: Digital SLR Camera’s, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autodesk Sketchbook and/or Blender; and some traditional mediums: Pencil,Charcoal, Paint, Gouache and Watercolours. Write about your character and environment design. How do they enhance an existing story or song?
Create an Art portfolio, which will include your Cover Art creations. This will show your journey from the study of existing Cover Art concepts, planning, development of ideas, and the creation of final resolved work/s. Prepare a method of presenting and communicating your body of work
