‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ is an observation that contains a general truth. This truth being that a single still image can express a meaning or idea more effectively than a mere verbal or written description. Photography is not the only way to capture the world through a single still image, but it is one of the most effective. Look no further than a magazine article, billboard, book cover, social media feed(Instagram, Facebook, TikTok), poster to see it- photographs have power! If you want to harness that power and learn how to take the best possible photos, than this programme is for you! This course is centred around studying basic photography skills, theory and established photographic work. You will create a body of photographic work that explores your worldview. This project combines writing and practical work , which will be presented in a format that is engaging and suits your learning needs. You will be able to develop your understanding of how to use a wide-range of Photographic tools that are used in the Creative Industry.

You will: Study existing photographic work and be able to analyse and interpret these works. Understand Photographic terms and their application. Study basic photographic skills and techniques for taking effective photographs. Understand the features and functions of a digital single-lens reflex(DSLR) camera and how to take photographs with it. Develop a series of your own photographic work, using a variety of photographic tools. This will include( not limited to) tripods, Digital SLR and phone Camera’s and Photoshop.Understand how to analyse, interpret and critique your body of work and that of your peers. Create a Photographic portfolio. Prepare a method of presenting and communicating your body of work.
