Growth - The Power of Space

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Malcolm.

Would you like to design spaces? Do you think you might like to be an Architect in the future? This course will provide you an introduction to Spatial Design, which is the design of spaces both interior and exterior. You will be using a range of techniques by sketching and using a computer to produce your designs.

You will complete one project in the semester. You will be provided with a situation, or you could offer up a situation that you would like to explore. For example you might be designing a local community structure, or a small house, a structure for the school, maybe even a small holiday house. You will then research and explore other design outcomes, you will be expected to explore sustainability, mātauranga Māori, and other cultural, societal, and design influences. The next step will be to start designing your own ideas (using sketching and computers), you will refine your ideas and make a small model of your design, and the final phase will be presenting your design idea visually using computer rendering. Throughout this process you will record your work in a portfolio and speak to your peers and teachers to help improve your design.
