Course Description

In Level 3 the course aims to develop a love of learning and an awareness of the past through a study of people and the events that impacted them.
This course has two distinct parts:
Part A: Race relations in 19th century Aotearoa/New Zealand: Topics include, The Declaration of Independence 1835, The Treaty of Waitangi 1840, The Northern War 1844-45,The New Zealand Wars focusing mainly on The Waikato War 1863-64.
Part B: A comparative study of India and China from colonialism to independence and beyond. Topics covered include, European colonisation and influence, steps towards independence-nationalist groups, issues faced after independence.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

Number of credits that can be used for overall endorsement: 15
Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
