Growth - Design, Create, Make
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Malcolm.
This course blends together a range of creative disciplines, including: arts, design, digital media, computing, engineering, and entrepreneurship. When taking this course you will be working with a range of media and be encouraged to brainstorm, research, sketch, design on computer, 3D print, laser cut, and construct in 3 dimensions.
You will complete one project in the semester. You will either be given a problem, or preferably try and solve a problem that you have identified and defined. You will explore a range of content to inspire and inform your work, you will be expected to explore sustainability, mātauranga Māori, and other cultural, societal, and design influences. You will then design (using sketching and computers), create (using hand techniques and machine techniques), and test (try out for strength, usability, effectiveness) until you have a product that is functional and meets the needs of the problem. Throughout this process you will record your work in a portfolio and speak to your peers, teachers to help improve your design.
It is possible to take this course more than once if you would like to extend your learning (alternative content and assessment can be offered).
